Spade – Gardening Support
Do you need some extra help with your gardening?
Spade is our gardening service providing basic gardening maintenance to Disabled and older people in the borough.
A team of talented volunteer gardeners carry out tasks such as weeding, mowing the lawn, pruning, and raking leaves. They are dedicated to conserving the local environment and enabling Disabled people to get the most out of their gardens. We welcome both experienced volunteers and beginners.

What the service provides:
Our Spade gardening service support people to enjoy their gardens again. A volunteer visits the garden to help clear it up of overgrown plants, grass, and weeds.
Our capacity to take on new clients is limited at present.
We have a £30 suggested donation for up to two and a half hours work to help us cover costs. We also welcome any contributions and donations, including of unused tools and gardening equipment, to support our work.

Our Volunteers Make a Real Difference…
Gardens are more than just outdoor spaces, they’re places to relax, connect with nature, and boost our wellbeing. Here’s what some of our Spade gardening service users had to say:
My garden was in an awful state. It is now neat and tidy and a pleasure to behold. With the warmer weather, I can now sit outside and enjoy it.
I was overwhelmed and unable to cope. With the help of these wonderful people I can enjoy my garden, which is a huge help to my mental health.
