The Timms Review – PIP

As part of the Government’s review of Personal Independence Payments (The Timms Review) Disabled people and supporting organisations were invited to contribute and co-produce a report which will be presented to the government and the DWP.

We contacted over 400 RAID clients who had used our benefits service in the last 2 years asking them to share their experiences, ideas and concerns about PIP.  We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed, it gave us some really valuable information to share.

Inclusion London, have been collecting contributions from individuals and organisations across London. At a recent event organized by them, we were able to pass on our client feedback as well as observations from our team of benefits advisors.

The impact PIP has on the lives of Disabled people was discussed:

  • what works well with the current system and what doesn’t work well
  • the changes people would like to see and what they would like to keep the same.

A clear message emerged from the event: when PIP is well designed, fairly administered and informed by the lived experiences of Deaf and Disabled people, it can have a positive impact on people’s lives. When people feel unheard, face poor treatment, or have their claims refused or awards removed, the consequences can be significant and far-reaching.

Inclusion London will collate all of the information and submit it to the Timms Review, which is due to conclude in autumn 2026. We will keep you updated with any developments.

RAID has also signed an open letter to the Government organised by Marie Curie, the end-of-life charity, which calls for an end to reassessments for people whose conditions will only worsen over time, by introducing life time awards.
