Time to Talk Day – 5 February 2026
Today we’re marking Time to Talk Day, the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. It’s a day dedicated to breaking the silence around mental health and reminding us all that talking – and listening – can change lives.
Why Talking About Mental Health Matters
Mental health affects us all. At different points in our lives, we may experience stress, anxiety, low mood or other challenges. Yet many people still find it difficult to open up, often because they worry about being judged, misunderstood or dismissed. Time to Talk Day exists to challenge that stigma and create space for honest, supportive conversations.
A conversation doesn’t have to be formal or complicated. It might be a chat over a cup of tea, a walk with a friend, a quick check-in call, or simply asking someone, “How are you really?” Taking a moment to listen without interrupting or trying to “fix” things can make someone feel heard, valued and less alone.
Supporting Conversations in Our Community
Here in Richmond, we see every day how powerful connection can be. At RAID, our services and peer support networks create safe, welcoming spaces where people can share experiences and feel understood. Open conversations are at the heart of building stronger, more compassionate communities.
If you’re not sure how to start a conversation, keep it simple. Choose a comfortable setting, be patient, and remember that listening is just as important as speaking. Small moments of connection can have a lasting impact.
And if you’re struggling yourself, reaching out is a sign of strength. If you would like support, you can find out more about our services and peer networks on our website, or get in touch with our team for a friendly, confidential chat.
Let’s use today as a reminder that mental health conversations shouldn’t happen just once a year. They should be part of everyday life.
Let’s get talking – today and every day.
